Finger Command Example

NSCEE no longer supports finger services over the network. You may still use the finger command for lookup on the host.

The finger command displays information about users. The following example displays information about all the users whose real or login name is John at the host you are currently logged into, i.e., clark.

clark % finger john

Login name: someuserIn real life: John Doe
Directory: /export/home/someuserShell: /bin/csh
Never logged in.

finger is also helpful if you have forgotten a person's login name. For example, you know John's first name, but can't remember his last name or login. If you type finger john, information for all users named john is displayed. The finger utility is not case sensitive. For more information see the man page for finger.
