USER SUPPORT
NSCEE Computer Account Security Agreement
The following paragraphs pertain to the use of your account on any
computer system at the National Supercomputing Center for Energy and
the Environment (NSCEE) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The
term "user" refers to individuals with accounts on the NSCEE
computers. This agreement must be signed by the user (when user picks
up his/her account information) before the account is activated.
- By using your account, you agree to protect any information processed
and/or stored in accounts assigned to you which is derived from restricted,
licensed, or proprietary information.
- You will protect your account(s) from any unauthorized use and will
maintain your password(s) in strict confidence. You are responsible for
any abuse of the NSCEE computers with your account, by any users who have
obtained account passwords from you, either directly or indirectly.
- The staff of the NSCEE back up computer files periodically, but users
are responsible for archiving their own files to magnetic tape or otherwise
saving their files.
- The NSCEE will make reasonable efforts to protect user files and to
make the Center computers available a reasonable number of hours. The NSCEE,
however, does not guarantee the protection of user files or the availability
of computing time.
- Games are prohibited on all NSCEE computer systems unless permitted
by the NSCEE Director for specific academic or research use.
- The NSCEE is not responsible for electronic mail received or transmitted
through the systems in the Center. Users should note that electronic messages
are not secure and must not contain information that is licensed, proprietary,
or otherwise restricted.
- The NSCEE reserves the right for its staff to inspect the contents
of any file stored on the system for the purposes of maintaining system
performance and safeguarding user and system files.
- The user agrees to observe any copyright agreements pertaining to
software used on the NSCEE systems.
- The user agrees to not tamper with switch settings, move, reconfigure,
or do anything that could damage NSCEE equipment.
- The user agrees to not access or attempt to access a host computer,
either at UNLV or through a network, without the owners' permission and/or
through use of login information belonging to another person.
- The user agrees to not create, disseminate or run a self-replicating
program ("virus"), whether destructive in nature or not.
- The user agrees to not copy, rename, alter, examine, or delete the
files or programs of another person without permission.
- Users will be held responsible for damage to the NSCEE and other user
resources (hardware and software) caused by intentional misuse or otherwise
unreasonable use of NSCEE resources.
- Use of NSCEE computing resources in violation of this security agreement,
network use policies, University of Nevada policy, or any federal, state
or local laws may result in revocation of your account privileges and may
subject you to disciplinary action and/or prosecution.
